Introduction

I have written the book to encourage gardeners to grow Fuchsia Standards for themselves. I believe every gardener should gain the experience of training a plant into the shape of a standard and all Fuchsia enthusiasts should include Fuchsia Standards in their collections. There is no need for a greenhouse or any expensive growing facilities.

My website is a follow up to the book it has approximately 60 web pages containging more than 600 photographs
which I have taken whilst the plants were growing in my garden during 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Showing how Fuchsia Standards Develop

To show how the plants growth develops during the summer months I have taken photographs of the plants growing in my garden at fortnightly intervals. Starting from when the plants had just a single stem, until the head developed and the plants came into flower. These photographs now provide a record of each cultivars rate of growth and growth habit to be compared with plants to be grown in future. The photographs are of the same plants on the recorded date.

Growing during 2005 and 2006 has been divided into three parts, training period,
flowering period and growing area.

The photographs taken during the Training period have a white background to show the plants foliage growth. This provides the gardener with the opportunity to see the vigour of each cultivar and the shape of the head.

The photographs taken during the Flowering period have been taken with dark backgrounds to show the buds and flowers developing.

The photographs of the Growing Area have a natural background and show the plants as a collection of Standards rather than individual cultivars.
